Our story so far

  • EARLY 1920s
    • Perth’s population grows and beaches become increasingly popular and accessible.
    • The groundwork is laid for new surf lifesaving clubs.
  • DECEMBER 1924
    • Members of the City of Perth Amateur Swimming Club begin informal lifesaving patrols at City Beach.
  • EARLY 1925
    • City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club officially forms – becoming Western Australia’s third Surf Life Saving Club.
    • Early conditions are basic, with shack-style clubrooms and heavy surf boats carried manually by members.
  • 1938
    • The club builds its first substantial clubhouse to support growing membership and activities.
  • LATE 1960s
    • The 1938 clubhouse is replaced with modern clubrooms in preparation for hosting major events.
  • 1970s
    • The club begins gaining a reputation in interclub competitions, complementing its strong patrol efforts.
  • 1971
    • City of Perth SLSC hosts the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships at City Beach.
  • 1980s
    • City of Perth SLSC achieves 11 consecutive State Championship pointscore victories.
    • Members begin to win national and international titles in lifesaving sport.
  • RECORD PATROL EXCELLENCE
    • The club has won the Surf Life Saving WA Patrol Efficiency Championship a record 23 times, demonstrating consistent excellence in beach safety.
  • 2014
    • As part of the City Beach redevelopment by the Town of Cambridge, the club undergoes a major transformation.
    • The club opens state-of-the-art new facilities, including upgraded gym, bar, social areas, and modern equipment.
  • TODAY
    • City of Perth SLSC boasts over 1,200 members, from nippers to seniors.
    • The club continues to foster community, camaraderie, and surf safety, staying true to the spirit of its 1920s founders.
