The Bronze Medallion is the entry level patrolling award for those aged at least 15 yrs old. It is the core award to be a Surf Lifesaver in Australia. The Bronze Medallion is a nationally recognised qualification and teaches a range of activities in order to be able to perform all the basic requirements of a lifesaver:
- OHS
- Beach types, wave patterns and currents.
- Resuscitation and first aid.
- Communication and radio techniques.
- Rescue techniques.
- Patrolling methods.

To be eligible to obtain your Bronze Medallion you must be a financial member of the club and be 15 years of age at the time of assessment. You will also be required to complete a 400 metre swim in 9 minutes or less.

For the bronze award to remain current, you must participate in an annual skills maintenance session and be assessed as proficient prior to 31 December each year.
