Three of City of Perth SLSC’s top beach sprinters took their speed from the sand to the grass last weekend, competing at the historic Mullewa Gift during the annual Mullewa Agricultural Show.

The Mullewa Gift is one of Western Australia’s longest-running professional handicapped footrace events, featuring the prestigious 120m Mullewa Gift and the fast-paced 70m Jim Wilson Sprint.

Representing City of Perth were current State Open Beach Sprint Champion and Australian Beach Sprint Silver Medallist Imogen Herrington, current State Beach Flags Champion Leah York, and fellow sprint standout Thomas Montague. All three athletes impressed by progressing through their heats to qualify for the finals of both feature events.

In the 120m Mullewa Gift, Imogen produced a strong performance to finish 3rd, Thomas was close behind in 4th, and Leah finished 7thin a highly competitive final.

The trio backed up in the 70m Jim Wilson Sprint, where City athletes dominated the podium. Imogen stormed home to claim 1st place, Leah finished an outstanding 2nd, and Thomas placed 6th, capping off another excellent team performance.

The final race of the day, the Backmarkers Sprint, saw Leah finish 6th and Imogen 7th against a quality field of experienced runners.

The strong results at Mullewa reflect the hard work of the City Sprint Squad, which has seen a large and dedicated group of athletes training consistently throughout the winter, including Imogen, Leah and Tom. Congratulations to Imogen, Leah and Tom on a fantastic day of competition and for proudly representing the club.
